The 'Voter Confidence Acts' - H.R. 2239 & S. 1980

[This page is now out of date... please see http://www.verifiedvoting.org/leg ]

Cosponsor
Count!

In May, 3 Representative Rush Holt introduced a bill that would require a voter-verifiable paper ballot on every voting system. It's called the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of (H.R. 2239). In December, Senator Robert Graham introduced a companion bill (S. 1980) into the Senate. It is identical in both title and text to H.R. 2239.

The text of H.R. 2239 and its details are here. The cosponsors to H.R. 2239 are here.

The text of S. 1980 and its details are here. The cosponsors to S. 1980 are here.

If we can get these bills enacted, we won't have to fight, state by state and county by county, to preserve democratic elections.

We urgently need to get these bills passed.

Here's How You Can Help!

H.R. 2239 is presently in the Committee on House Administration. S.1980 is presently in the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. We must bring both these bills to action and get them passed immediately after the Congress resumes in January.

Co-sponsorship must be increased for both bills, especially among members of the committees where the bills now reside.

So, please check our state pages to find out whether your Congressperson or Senator has taken a position on H.R. 2239 or S.1980. Then take the initiative and call your Representative and Senators. If they already support H.R. 2239/S.1980, thank them! Emphasize the importance of this legislation and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 2239/S.1980.

If you see your Representative on this list, then we really need your help.

If you see your Senator on this list, their support is critical. Be sure to call and get support for S.1980.

  • "The core of our American democracy is the right to vote. Implicit in that right is the notion that that vote be private, that vote be secure, and that vote be counted as it was intended when it was cast by the voter. And I think what we're encountering is a pivotal moment in our democracy where all of that is being called into question." (more here)
